ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2026) – Orlando Pride defender Rafaelle has announced her retirement from the National Women's Soccer League following the conclusion of the 2026 season, bringing to a close her time in the league after stints with Orlando and the Houston Dash.
Since joining the Pride in July 2023, Rafaelle has made 52 appearances across all competitions for Orlando, highlighted by the historic 2024 campaign that saw the Pride capture both the NWSL Shield and NWSL Championship, the first trophies in club history. She has also scored twice for the Pride, finding the back of the net in her debut on Aug. 20, 2023, against the Chicago Red Stars, and again in the 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup against the Washington Spirit
“Rafa has always been the kind of player whose actions speak louder than words. She brought professionalism and consistency every day, setting an example both on and off the field,” said Orlando Pride Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Caitlin Carducci. “We are grateful for everything she has contributed to our club and look forward to celebrating her incredible career.”
Prior to joining Orlando, Rafaelle, 35, played for Arsenal, Palmeiras and Changchun Zhuoyue after beginning her professional career with the Houston Dash, who selected her No. 10 overall in the 2014 NWSL Draft, making her the first Brazilian player selected in league history. She made 35 appearances and scored four goals with Arsenal, helping the Gunners win the 2022-23 FA Women's League Cup title, and earlier won the 2021 Copa Paulista with Palmeiras.
Internationally, Rafaelle has represented Brazil for more than a decade following her senior national team debut in 2011. She was named to Brazil's FIFA Women's World Cup squads in 2015 and 2023, as well as the Olympic rosters in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Rafaelle captained Brazil to the 2022 Copa América Femenina title after helping the Seleção win the tournament in 2018. She also won a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games and a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games.
“Soccer has given me so much more than I ever dreamed of. To my teammates, coaches, the staff and the fans who made Orlando feel like home, thank you,” Rafaelle said. “I’m closing this chapter with a full heart and immense gratitude. This club and this city will always be part of me.”
Rafaelle and the Pride will take on Gotham FC this Sunday, Oct. 25, in the Club's final home match of the 2026 season. Following the match, Rafaelle will be recognized and celebrated for her distinguished professional career. Kickoff from Inter.co Stadium is set for 3 p.m. ET, with tickets available here.
