Better Late Than Never
Coming off a first half brace for the First Team in Orlando City’s 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, midfielder Gustavo Caraballo continued that goal scoring form in last Saturday’s match against Inter Miami CF II. Caraballo etched his name on the stat sheet for the young Lions as he scored his first goal of the season and first of his career with Orlando City B. The Homegrown talent’s goal came in the 19th minute of the rivalry match as he was able to curl the ball into the bottom right corner of the net following a pass from forward Justin Ellis in the middle of the Miami box.
Getting Involved
It was a busy night for Orlando City B forward Justin Ellis in the victory over intrastate rival Inter Miami CF II last Saturday. In addition to scoring his third goal of the season and fifth all-time, Ellis recorded an assist on both midfielder Gustavo Caraballo's and Shak Mohammed’s second-half goals. The assists marked the forward’s second and third assists of his Orlando City B career, bringing his goal contribution total in the 2025 campaign up to six, entering a tie with Shak Mohammed for the Club lead. To celebrate his performance against Miami, Ellis was awarded Player of Matchweek 10 by MLS NEXT Pro on Tuesday afternoon.
Lucky Number 7
Currently sitting at six straight unbeaten matches against Atlanta United 2, the young Lions will look to make it seven when they take on the Five Stripes on Friday evening at Osceola County Stadium. The match will mark the second of three meetings between the two sides in the 2025 regular season, with OCB prevailing in penalty kicks following a full-time draw in the Lions’ second game of the season back in March. In the last six matches against Atlanta, Orlando City B has won three and drawn three, with the last loss of the matchup coming in April of 2023. The Lions have put together an overall winning record against the team from the Peach State, as the Club currently sits at 3-1-2 in the all-time series.
Moving on Up
With his 52nd minute first-touch finish in the Lions’ victory over Inter Miami CF II, First Team midfielder Shak Mohammed reached six goals on the season and 23 all-time for Orlando City B. The goal from Mohammed saw him move up the leaderboard and gain sole possession of third place in goals scored in MLS NEXT Pro this year, now just two behind the league leading eight. Mohammed has now scored in back-to-back matches three separate times for OCB in the regular season thus far and has put at least one in the back of the net in six of his eight appearances for the Lions in 2025.
