Orlando Pride Head Coach Seb Hines

Opening Statement

“I thought it was a well-balanced match. I think both teams were trying to figure each other out for long periods of the game. What our players put into that game, the effort, the commitment, the desire, was tremendous. We just fell short today with the result, but I thought the performance was there. Obviously, you never want to lose a game especially 1-0 at home but I can’t give the players enough compliments for their efforts tonight.”

On the Current’s goal

“It’s their game model, what they play for is those transition moments. It’s less than three passes and before you know it, they get it in behind. I think everyone can see that, yourselves included, and they took advantage of that one moment.”

Orlando Pride Goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse

Opening Statement

“Tough result obviously, but I thought we played well, and we dominated in parts. It's always going to be a tough game. We have had some tough games in the past against Kansas [City], so yeah, it's a disappointing result but the performance is something to work on, something to keep pushing on.”

On the Current's goal

“We looked at that kind of play before the game so it's kind of disappointing to then concede from that because we did identify it as kind of something that they do. It's obvious they've got speed up top and they just like to put the ball in behind for that. It’s just one of those things. She just finished it well.”

On the pressure of being defending champions

“Teams are playing differently against us. We are usually coming up against kind of teams and back in a low block defending for their lives and we've got to figure out a way to kind of score goals against that. We are on top for the majority of the past games and we just need to find a way to score that goal and then maybe we can relax a little bit. Then we don't have to chase a game in the dying minutes. I think teams are just adapting to us, everyone wants to play their best game against us because we won so much last year. We just have to adapt to that and find a way to beat that.”

Orlando Pride Forward Summer Yates

Opening Statement

“We expected a tough game. It's unfortunate how the result ended but I think this is something that we can build off and motivation to keep going every week.”

On her return from injury

“I’m excited to be back, thankful for that. Our medical team was able to get me back quicker than expected. So, I’m super excited that I was able to get back on the field and just run around and play again and not being in a boot. Again, super excited and hopefully I can help the team in these upcoming games.”

On playing against Kansas City’s low block

"I think we've seen a lot of teams start doing that to us, especially with the speed we have on our backline with Barbra [Banda], Ally [Watt], and Prisca [Chilufya]. It's something that we need to build on, too, and learn to break down a low block. It's difficult and it's not always fun. We have to be patient, and I think we are going to really work on that going forward just because teams have kind of started doing that, which we can always adapt to as a team."
