Orlando City Interim Head Coach Martín Perelman

On the result

“It was a tough game... We knew they were going to fight, they were going to try to do their best. Congratulations to them because they did an amazing game, and as well, congratulations to our players because I think they did a huge effort... This cup is not easy and we competed. We got what we came looking for. Our young players were able to get minutes to help us and I’m happy for the victory.”

On goalkeeper Javier Otero’s performance

“I talked to the players and for me there’s only Orlando City players. We [place our] trust on everybody here. I’m happy for the performance of the team, and Javi [Otero] is growing amazingly within the Club, and Cesar Baena is doing an amazing job with him and Max [Crépeau] and Tristan [Himes] and all the goalkeepers. I think they are performing really well and we’re happy for them and for the Club.”

Orlando City SC Forward Tyrese Spicer

On his goal

“It’s a new thing playing on the right side. I think Coach Martín [Perelman] told me just to be yourself on the right. I think when I saw the play started from us having the second balls, I came inside on my left foot. I was like, ‘okay, let me get a chance to set myself,’ when [Braian] Ojeda played it to me and I saw the back of the net and I was like, ‘let me have a go at the goal’ and it went in and I was grateful for that, just being back on the field, playing, getting my confidence back. Being out with a groin injury for so long, for like a month, and just having a few training sessions under my belt and playing 70 minutes is a pretty good day. We got the victory. It’s good.”

On returning from injury

“It was good to get back out there and play with the teammates. We trained so hard during the week and this is a tough opponent. They came out and they gave their heart and souls, but we also gave our heart and souls, and today we came out with that edge and goal, and it was a good victory for us.”

On building momentum from tonight’s match

“It’s important. Every game is like a final, as Martín [Perelman] says. We have to stack up the victories one by one and we have to keep building. That’s just a steppingstone for us. We’ve got to keep building on that, keep getting that momentum going, and you know, look [toward] Saturday, game by game and get the victories.”
