Milestones, storylines and more ahead of the Lions' Open Cup match on the road in Rhode Island
Milestones
- MartÃn Ojeda is three goals away from 40 in all competitions for Orlando City. Ojeda would become the third player in club history to score 40 goals, following Facundo Torres (47) and Cyle Larin (44), and the first with both 40 goals and 40 assists.
Stats & Storylines
- Orlando City returns to Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup action on Wednesday night, facing the New England Revolution with a quarterfinal berth on the line. Rather than play at the Revs’ usual home venue of Gillette Stadium, the two sides will square off at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The brand-new 10,500-seat venue, opened last May, is the permanent home of USL Championship side Rhode Island FC and also serves as a temporary home venue for Boston Legacy FC of NWSL and the Rhode Island Rams college football team.
- Orlando earned its spot in the Round of 16 by defeating FC Naples 1-0 on April 15. A screamer from Tyrese Spicer was enough to earn the Lions the win. Javier Otero made seven saves in a Man of the Match performance in net as Orlando recorded its first clean sheet since August 2025. Otero’s diving stop in the 62nd minute was voted Save of the Round on the Open Cup’s official channels.
- A draw will determine Orlando City’s next opponent should Orlando City advance past New England and into the quarterfinals.Â
- The Lions have picked things up offensively over the past week, scoring six times in two matches after notching just two goals across their five previous outings. Homegrown Justin Ellis scored his first MLS goal and Spicer added a second in as many weeks in Saturday night’s 3-2 defeat away to D.C. United. Ellis, one of the top teenage prospects in MLS and a former MLS NEXT MVP, notched 1g/1a over his first two league starts over the past week.

Meet the opponent: New England Revolution
-Â After going winless at New England over its first nine seasons in the league, Orlando has won away each of the past two seasons, most recently defeating the Revs 2-1 last July behind a MartÃn Ojeda brace.
- Ojeda absolutely terrorized the Revs in 2025, scoring five goals across two matches between the sides. Ojeda’s hat trick on May 10 was just the fourth in Orlando City history and the first by any Lion since Cyle Larin in September 2015.
- Orlando and New England have met once before in the U.S. Open Cup, in the Round of 16 on June 19, 2019. With the game tied 0-0 after 90 minutes, Homegrown attacker Benji Michel scored his first professional goal in the sixth minute of extra time, while Tesho Akindele added what turned out to be a crucial second in a 2-1 win.
- New England is rolling into Wednesday’s match on a six-game unbeaten streak, most recently drawing Inter Miami 1-1 at Nu Stadium on Wednesday. The Revs are up to fourth in the Eastern Conference through ten MLS Matchdays, though their schedule has left something to be desired – eighth-place Columbus is the highest-ranked team New England has beaten among their five league wins.
- Revs star Carles Gil is still going strong at age 33, scoring his second of the season at Miami on Saturday. Gil has been a long-time Orlando City menace, racking up 7g/8a in 13 matches in all competitions against Orlando in his career.
