- Orlando City rolled to a comfortable 1-0 victory against the Portland Timbers on Tuesday night, moving up to fourth in the Eastern Conference, three points back of first-place Philadelphia and just four shy of the Supporters’ Shield-leading Vancouver Whitecaps at the top of the overall league table.
- Orlando sits third in MLS in goals with 28, trailing only the San Jose Earthquakes (32) and the Philadelphia Union (30). The underlying numbers say it’s no fluke – the Lions’ attack currently leads the Eastern Conference per Opta’s expected goals model, ranking second league-wide behind San Jose.
- Striker Duncan McGuire scored his first goal in MLS since October 2, 2024 on Saturday, finally returning to the scoresheet after a laborious road back from offseason shoulder surgery. Orlando’s center forward group of McGuire, Ramiro Enrique, and Luis Muriel have combined for seven goals over the club’s past six matches in all competitions.
- Midfielder Eduard Atuesta returned from injury in style, assisting McGuire’s goal and orchestrating everything from his central position. Atuesta created a game-high three chances, completed 96% of his passes, and won four of his six duels. The Colombian was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday bench for his performance.
- Orlando also pitched its seventh shutout of the year behind another strong performance from goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, who is tied with Minnesota’s Dayne St. Clair for the league lead in clean sheets. Gallese is 13 saves away from 500 with Orlando City.
- Orlando City’s on field success is translating into international recognition for some of its stars. In addition to international regulars Pedro Gallese (Peru) and David Brekalo (Slovenia), Alex Freeman (United States) and Marco Pašalić (Croatia) will join their respective national teams during the upcoming June window. Freeman’s call-up is his first, while Pašalić returns to Croatia for the first time since November of last year. Pašalić is the first Croatian player ever called to the national team from MLS.

- There was no vengeance for Atlanta United last month at Inter&Co Stadium. The Five Stripes sought to avenge a bitter 1-0 defeat to Orlando in the MLS Cup Playoffs last year, but instead were trounced 3-0 in a comprehensive display from the Lions. Luis Muriel, Alex Freeman, and Marco Pašalić all found the back of the net in the win.
- Atlanta has endured an extremely disappointing season, netting just 14 points through its first 15 games after bringing in two Designated Players, including returning star Miguel Almirón, and several other supporting pieces this offseason. The Five Stripes did pick up a huge win on Sunday Night Soccer last weekend, defeating FC Cincinnati 4-2 in their best performance of the 2025 season.
- Almirón has just 3 G/3 A in 14 games this year, primarily playing out of position as an inverted right winger.
