ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2024) — Orlando City SC has signed defender Kyle Smith to a new contract that will keep him at the Club through the 2025 season, it was announced today.
“Bringing Kyle back to Orlando for 2025 is a great step in our project for next season,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “He’s been such a vital piece of our successes over the last few seasons with his versatility and work rate both on and off the field. He’s a player that we know we can always depend on, and we’re excited to have him back with us next year.”
In his first six seasons in Orlando, Smith has made 105 starts in 180 appearances across all competitions, making him the second-most capped player in Club history trailing only Orlando City captain Robin Jansson, scoring five goals and providing nine assists. He appeared in all of City’s matches in its 2022 U.S. Open Cup Championship run and played a pivotal role in bringing the Club’s first trophy in the MLS era to the City Beautiful. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native joined the Lions ahead of their 2019 season when he was signed from Louisville City of the USL Championship.
In 2024, the 32-year-old defender appeared in 40 games across all competitions, including 18 starts. Smith found the back of the net once and provided three helpers, including one game-winning assist.
