ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 30, 2025) – Orlando City SC has re-signed goalkeeper Carlos Mercado to a First Team contract through 2025, with Club options in 2026 and 2027, it was announced today.
“Carlos did a great job for us last year with Orlando City B and continued to provide a positive work ethic and atmosphere every day in training up with the First Team and showed his skill and ability to compete every chance he got,” said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “He’s part of a strong goalkeeping unit here at the Club and we feel confident in the future of that entire position group moving forward.”
Mercado served as Orlando City B’s primary goalkeeper in MLS NEXT Pro last season, helping lead the Lions to their second straight appearance in the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs. During the 2024 campaign, the Laredo, Texas, native made 83 saves in 20 starts, maintaining a 1.50 goals against average and earning nine wins and six draws in those matches.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper signed an MLS NEXT Pro contract with Orlando City B ahead of the 2024 season and signed a deal to move up to the First Team and MLS in September later last year.
