After visiting the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Orlando City SC (9-13-8, 35 points) faces a quick turnaround when it returns home for the first time in over a month to host the New England Revolution (11-14-5, 38 points) on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium.
The match will be locally televised on WRDQ TV27, and transmitted in English on Real Radio 104.1 FM and in Spanish on La Nueva 990 AM. The pregame, halftime and postgame shows will be streamed on the LionNation app and Facebook Live.
“We need to come into this match feeling like we have something to prove, because we do. We need to prove something, first of foremost to ourselves, we need to prove something to the rest of our Club and all of our fans, who have been fantastic this entire year,” Lions Head Coach Jason Kreis said.
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two teams; Orlando City is 1-2-3 in the all-time series. New England took the season’s first meeting 4-0 on Sept. 2 at Gillette Stadium. The last time New England visited Orlando was on July 31, 2016, when City kicked off the Jason Kreis era with a 3-1 win.
City is coming off a 3-0 loss against the Portland Timbers this past Sunday. The Timbers took the lead early on in the first half with Diego Valeri’s penalty kick goal in the 15th minute before Darren Mattocks made it 2-0. Valeri scored again in the second half. The match concluded a four-game road trip, City’s longest consecutive stretch of road games in the MLS era.
Cyle Larin leads the Lions with 12 goals, while Carlos Rivas and Kaká are tied for the team lead with five assists. Joe Bendik currently leads MLS with 106 saves.
New England is coming off a 2-1 home win against Toronto FC on Saturday. Lee Nguyen scored in the 82nd minute, but Nicolas Hasler equalized two minutes later. Kei Kamara scored the game-winner in the 87th minute.
Kamara currently leads New England with 12 goals in 27 games played. Nguyen leads the Revs with 15 assists to go with his 10 goals.
Orlando City is currently in 10th place, three points behind eighth-place New England, and seven points behind sixth-place New York Red Bulls.
After the midweek match, the Lions play again just three days later when they host FC Dallas on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Orlando City Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.
