ORLANDO, Fla. (May 24, 2025) – Orlando City SC (7-2-6, 27 points) took down the Portland Timbers (6-4-5, 23 points) at Inter&Co Stadium on Saturday night, taking three points and pushing up the Eastern Conference standings to fourth place. The win saw the Lions tie the Club record of 12 straight games undefeated in MLS, currently the longest unbeaten run in the league this year.
Oscar Pareja’s side took the lead in the 39th minute through forward Duncan McGuire. The goal was McGuire’s second of the season and 28th of his career with the Club.
City midfielder Eduard Atuesta made an impact in his return to the starting lineup with an assist on McGuire’s goal, which marked the third of his Lions career. Orlando City’s defense limited Portland to just two shots, helping secure the Club’s seventh shutout of the season, tied for most in MLS.
The Lions will next head to the Peach State to take on rivals Atlanta United FC on Wednesday, May 28. Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, with the match set to air live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Scoring Summary:
39’ Duncan McGuire (Eduard Atuesta) – ORL 1, POR 0
Orlando City forward Duncan McGuire opened the scoring for the Lions in the 39th minute. After a clearance by the Portland defense, midfielder Eduard Atuesta picked up the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and played in McGuire behind the Portland defensive line. McGuire then fired a first-touch shot past Portland goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.
Head Coach Oscar Pareja:
“Well, first, I would like to recognize the effort of the players today for that incredible first half that we had and the tactical discipline that they kept in the second half when we needed to. Our energy to push and press and start getting lower for the simple reason that we played two days ago and we played hard in the last game in the [Lamar Hunt] U.S. Open Cup. So, all of that let us feel so proud about the effort, the performance and beating a good rival, as well. I consider Portland a very good team and a very good team that took [two] shots on our goal. And that means a lot to us. So, a great three points, and we're ready to move on because we have another game in the middle of the week. But today is not that. We needed to win, but we needed to have that performance that the players had in the first half.”
